The Fellowship of Saint Luke

Ten years ago Annie set up The Fellowship of Saint Luke to help promote the painting and understanding of the sacred art of iconography.

The monks of Novgorod and Pskov, who had a deep spiritual understanding of iconography, described in detail the meaning of every stage of the work involved in creating an icon. This knowledge helps us to appreciate what is being achieved while painting and also enables us to read icons in the future.

Annie paints in the Byzantine tradition using the float technique, as taught by the monks, to create icons of transcendent beauty.

She wishes to keep this knowledge alive and to this end she gives talks and runs 6 day courses and full day workshops.

May 5 - 10th         :    6 Day Icon Course  - London

Venue: House of Prayer, 35 Seymour Road, East Molesey, Surrey. KT8 0PB
(Near Hampton Court Palace)
Join us in creating an icon in the unique Russian/Byzantine Float style using egg tempera with natural earth ochres, minerals, precious stones and pure gold leaf. This beautiful technique helps create a mystical transcendence of The Holy Figure – not achieved by many other styles of painting. As each layer is applied you will be illumined of its deeper and inner meaning. At the end of the week you will have an icon to cherish and be enriched of its spiritual significance.

Paint either a new icon of a British Saint or a classic icon.
Annie Shaw will be your tutor.

The course is open to those of all levels of expertise.

May 19th – 24th:   6 Day Icon Course – Bath

Venue: Farm Court, St. Catherine, Bath. BA1 8HA
The course will be held in the studio of Alice Craigmyle nestled in the beautiful hills just 4 miles from the historical city of Bath. We will be painting a classical icon of the Mother of God.
There are a limited number of spaces for this course, which is open to those of all levels of expertise.

September 22nd – 27th:  6 Day Icon Painting Course - London
